Emergency Action Plan

The George Washington University Fire Emergency Action Plan can be requested from the Office of Health and Safety. The purpose of the plan is to outline the emergency action plan in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) regulations [29 CFR 1910.38(a)]. The plan is useful for the entire university community in order to prepare for what to do in case of a fire emergency and aligns with GW's Fire Safety Policy.

A fire emergency exists when a building fire alarm is sounding or when there is a presence of a flame or smoke. Campus buildings will be immediately and completely evacuated whenever the building fire alarm is sounding.

Upon discovery of a fire, contact the GW Police Department:

Foggy Bottom: (202) 994-6111

Mount Vernon: (202) 242-6111

Virginia Campus: 911

Follow the University's procedures for fire evacuations.
